Panic’s Coda – Best Mac Web Development Application
My career began learning to build webpages with handcoded HTML and Text Edit. As I got deeper into the career I began utilizing dreamweaver and had learned every feature it had to offer. I had concerns though with several lacking things. As well, I became fed up with the “User Friendly” aspects that would seem so great to people who use it to build the websites for them. It continued to the point the only aspect of Dreamweaver I frequently used, other than the general must haves like ftp, was to quickly build tables. I knew that there had to be something else!
About a year ago I came across an application for the Macintosh called Coda and tried it out. I was quickly impressed with what it had to offer and began using it adamantly for all the web work I did. I enjoyed the little web page previews for each site setup, the tabbed page presentations, the splitting capability where you can view different sections of the same page, and most of all the ability to upload all my edited pages at once. While I was enthralled with it’s use, there were still some needed features I desired such as SVN capabilities integrated, and multiple page search/replace features.
A few month’s ago version 1.5 was released, and sure enough it included the SVN integration, and the much needed search features! As well as several other great features. I had mentioned Coda to a friend I use to work with, who ended up starting his own niche hosting company (Railsplayground.com) that has taken off big time focused on Rails development, and he quickly became a fan and uses Coda for his development needs as well.
I recommend giving Coda a try for yourself, http://www.panic.com/coda/

I love coda, I was using vi mostly for editing but I switched to coda since it allows me to edit files on servers over SFTP very easily. Its also great having everything in one window.
